Animal & Veterinary Legal Services, PLLC are experts in developing strategies that improve animal and practice health. In addition to private practices, we provide expertise to professional committees, participate in association task forces, and serve as key opinion leaders. We offer specialized training and online instruction for veterinary medical professionals without the need for travel or time away from work.
Sarah L. Babcock, DVM, JD
President
In 2001, Dr. Babcock suffered a great personal loss when her horse, Talley, was killed in an act of animal cruelty. The case hinged on the expert testimony of a veterinarian. This tragedy showed her the pivotal intersection of law and science.
Dr. Babcock subsequently graduated from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Law with a Concentration in Health Care Law. She also earned a Certificate in International Human Rights & Criminal Law from Tulane University Law School.
Dr. Sarah Babcock founded Animal & Veterinary Legal Services, PLLC in 2004. She has held senior-level positions advising both executive and legislative U.S. federal government leaders, and was a Brookings Institute LEGIS Fellow.
She has also served as an American Veterinary Medical Law Association District Director, and an American Veterinary Medical Association Science Policy Fellow and member of the organization’s Judicial Council.
She has numerous peer-reviewed publications that focus on issues relevant to veterinary practice, including publications related to license discipline and malpractice actions; medical record-keeping; client consent; animal abuse and neglect; vaccine liability; client confidentiality; and zoonotic diseases.
Today Dr. Babcock works as a part-time small animal veterinarian, One Health adjunct faculty at the Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine, and peer-reviewer for a veterinary medical board.
